Read Hebrews 10:5–14
Events shape history and redirect the future. Think about Pearl Harbor, the Civil War, the Fall of the Berlin Wall, D-Day, and 9–11. Think about Einstein, Martin Luther, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Think about maps, toilet paper, the Internet, and mobile phones. Have you heard of lightbulb sheets and snow shovels on wheels? Both were inventions in 2006.
Another historic and biblical event brought major changes for all eternity. The author of Hebrews describes it this way:
But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God (Hebrews 10:12).
The writer’s reference is Jesus Christ, who did not sacrifice animals as directed by the Law. He was the fulfillment of the Law. His appearance, death, and resurrection, and His present status at the right hand of God complete the promises of sacrifice offered for the forgiveness of sins. Let us rejoice today, knowing that we are made new because of His offering. That event can shape our destiny.
